How do you work in a narrow Victorian hallway without blocking access?

We work in sections and maintain a clear passage through the house. The front door end is completed first. We schedule the work to ensure the hallway is usable during the day and closed overnight when coats need to dry undisturbed.

What paint finish is best for a busy hallway?

Eggshell or scuff-resistant emulsion are both well suited to hallways. They tolerate the inevitable contact with bags, coats, and chairs better than flat matt emulsion. For woodwork (skirting boards and door frames), satin is standard.

Do you paint dado rail and above as one colour?

That is one option, but many Cambridge clients use the dado rail as a colour break — a more durable darker tone below rail height and a softer tone above. The lower half takes the most contact and benefits from a tougher finish.

How long does a hallway and staircase take to paint?
