Living Room Painting
Living rooms in Newnham and Romsey properties typically have bay windows, chimney breast alcoves, and original coving or cornicing. We paint walls, ceilings, and all woodwork as a complete room.
For bold chimney breast or feature wall treatments, see our feature wall painting page. Colour choice matters in rooms where natural light varies through the day — we advise on paint sheen levels and colour temperature during the site visit.
Farrow and Ball and Little Greene are popular with Cambridge buyers who have researched their options. For dining rooms, see our dining room painting page.
Bedroom Painting
A well-finished bedroom with clean ceiling lines and consistent coverage makes a significant difference to how a room feels. Period properties with ceiling mouldings need hand-cutting rather than masking tape alone.
We take the time to achieve a clean finish at every junction. Alcoves either side of chimney breasts, built-in wardrobes, and original plasterwork are all handled carefully.
For home offices and studies, see our home office painting page. For staircase and landing work, see our staircase painting page.
Hallway Painting
Hallways in Cambridge’s Victorian and Edwardian terraces are rarely straightforward. Narrow corridors, tall stairwells, picture rails, dado rails, and multiple door frames mean more cutting-in per square metre than any other room.
Hallway and staircase painting in period properties often takes longer than clients expect. We work methodically from ceiling to skirting board and never rush the process.
For dedicated staircase woodwork, see our hallway painting page.
Kitchen and Utility Painting
A kitchen repaint changes the feel of a room without a full refit. We paint kitchen walls, ceilings, and woodwork to a professional standard. For a factory-smooth cabinet refresh, see our kitchen cabinet painting page.
Kitchens need careful surface preparation, particularly around areas exposed to steam and grease. New Trumpington Meadows kitchens with smooth surfaces take a different primer approach than original Victorian kitchen surfaces.
For radiators throughout the property, see our radiator painting page.

Bathroom, Ceiling and Woodwork Painting

Bathroom Painting
Bathrooms need moisture-resistant finishes over correctly prepared surfaces. Poor preparation leads to peeling, especially above showers and baths.
We use moisture-resistant and mould-inhibiting primers as a standard step in every bathroom job. For a dedicated service, see our bathroom painting page.
Ceilings and Woodwork
High ceilings are a feature of Cambridge’s better Victorian and Edwardian properties in Newnham and Cherry Hinton. Ceiling roses, cornicing, and decorative plasterwork need precise cutting-in.
A poorly cut ceiling rose shows from any angle. Original skirting boards, picture rails, and architraves are painted separately from wall surfaces to achieve clean definition between finishes.
For dedicated ceiling work, see our ceiling painting page. For plasterboard and new-build surfaces, see our plasterboard painting page. We also cover wall painters and kitchen cabinet painting for clients refreshing woodwork at the same time.
House Painting Projects
For full interior and exterior projects, our house painting service covers everything in one scope. Period properties, new-builds, and everything in between.

Wall Painting and Finishing
From smooth plasterboard in a new build to original lime plaster in a Romsey terrace, every wall surface calls for a different approach. We match primers and paint systems to the substrate.
See our wall painters page for detail on wall-specific finishes and paint systems used across Cambridge properties.
How Our Interior Painting Works
1. Site Visit and Colour Consultation
We visit the property, assess the surfaces, and discuss the scope. We note surface conditions, existing paint types, and any period features needing individual preparation. Colour consultation is included at this stage.
2. Preparation
We fill cracks, stabilise loose plaster, sand back rough surfaces, and apply the correct primer. Original lime plaster on Romsey and Newnham properties needs a breathable primer. Newly plastered walls need a diluted sealing coat first.
3. Paint Application
Ceilings are painted first, then walls, then woodwork. This keeps drips off finished surfaces. Each coat gets adequate drying time before the next is applied.
4. Period Feature Care
Cornicing, ceiling roses, picture rails, and original skirting boards are hand-cut precisely. Where original mouldings have been painted over many times, we advise on the best approach.
5. Final Walkthrough
We check for missed spots, uneven coverage, and any paint on surfaces it should not be on. We walk through the completed rooms with you and address anything before we leave.

Interior Painting Costs in Cambridge
Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different. Call 01223 912776 for a precise quote.
Interior painting typically ranges from £300 to £600 for a single room and £3,500 to £9,000 or more for a full-house interior repaint. Cambridge’s period properties often sit at the higher end.
Room Size
A large reception room in a Newnham villa has considerably more wall and ceiling area than a modern bedroom. More area means more materials and more time.
Single room repaint (Victorian terrace, Romsey or Cherry Hinton): £350 to £600, depending on room size and surface condition.
Surface Condition
Original lime plaster with accumulated layers and minor movement cracks requires more preparation than a smooth, skim-plastered new-build wall.
Victorian and Edwardian properties in Cambridge often have cornicing, picture rails, and ceiling roses on top of generous ceiling heights — budget higher per room than you would for a standard new-build.
Paint Quality
Trade paints like Dulux Trade and Johnstone’s are the standard. Heritage ranges such as Farrow and Ball and Little Greene cost more per litre and are priced accordingly.
Full hallway and staircase (Edwardian semi, Chesterton or Newnham): £600 to £1,100. Tall stairwells and multiple doors add time considerably.
Whole-House Projects
A whole-house interior in a 4-bed Victorian or Edwardian property typically costs £4,500 to £9,000+, depending on preparation needed and paint specification.
